Past Events
On Sunday August 10th The Friends of One Tree Hill (FROTH) laid on an event at the top of the hill to mark 120 years since public protest secured this spot as “a public open space for ever.”
OTHAS members and guests were invited to gather in the allotment picnic area from 3pm to eat, drink and generally rabble-rouse before we join everyone else on the hill.
The annual wassail this year took place on January 24th. We have a wassail every year, and below is a picture from the one that took place in February 2025.

Wassail trees at the allotment.
Wassailing apple orchards is an ancient tradition in cider-making parts of the country, and is a way of blessing the orchard to ensure a good crop. It involves making noise to scare off evil spirits, pouring libations of cider on to the roots and consuming a certain amount of it too.

Guests are requested to bring noise-making instruments and snacks and apple-derived drinks to share. In addition to the “pagan” dress code, guests are advised to dress warmly and wear suitable footwear, bearing in mind that the going can be slippery. In case of bad weather, gatherings will usually take place at Walters Way.
